They Skipped the MBA Route. Still Made it to Top Firms

Our alumni started where you are today. Now, they work with some of the world’s leading firms.

During my graduation, I had always heard about roles like Consultant in Risk Advisory, but I was never sure how people actually reach there or what the journey looks like. Even after my MBA and some time in the market, I felt that classroom learning was mostly theoretical and not something I could truly apply in real work situations. When I joined GRMI, that perception started changing. The practical exposure and real-world approach helped me realize how concepts translate into business scenarios. That shift gave me clarity and confidence, and eventually helped me begin my journey as a Consultant in Risk Advisory. Now I am fully satisfied because what I have learned can be easily and fully applied in real-world situations.
While doing my MBA, I genuinely believed what everyone said—that it would naturally open doors to leadership roles. I carried that expectation and worked towards it with full conviction. But after a couple of years in the job market, I started feeling a disconnect. The exposure I was getting was quite different from what I had imagined, and I began to question my direction. I was honestly a bit lost at that point. That’s when I decided to join GRMI, and things slowly started to change. I finally got the practical exposure I was looking for and could see how learning translates into real work.
I’m truly grateful to GRMI for helping me regain clarity and confidence in my career.
Before this phase of my journey, I was mostly focused on completing tasks without fully understanding the bigger picture behind them. Over time, through structured learning and practical exposure, I started connecting my work to how businesses actually operate and manage risk. That shift completely changed my perspective—I became more analytical, more curious, and more intentional in my approach. Today, I don’t just execute work; I try to understand the ‘why’ behind it, which has made a huge difference in how I grow professionally
After completing my MBA, I joined ICICI Bank as a Deputy Manager, where I gained hands-on experience in daily banking operations and execution. While the role was valuable, I gradually realized I lacked a clear understanding of how risk is assessed and how larger business decisions are made. I was involved in processes but not the reasoning behind them. Joining GRMI changed that, as its practical, case-based learning helped me connect my experience with real decision-making and understand risk from a broader perspective.

It depends on the career path you want to pursue. A traditional MBA provides a broad understanding of business functions such as marketinng, operations, finance, and strategy. However, many MBA programmes remain largely theoretical and general in nature.

A specialised 1-year Risk Management programme focuses on practical business decision-making, consulting frameworks, regulatory environments, and risk assessment across industries. For students who want careers in consulting, risk advisory, governance, or financial risk roles and want to get placed in Big 4 or top global firms, a specialised programme like PGDRM can provide faster and more targeted preparation than a general MBA.

Yes, in certain areas of consulting it can.

Many consulting firms today hire specialists who understand risk, compliance, regulatory frameworks, cyber risk, and business controls. These are areas where specialised training in risk management can be highly valuable.

While MBA graduates may enter consulting in general strategy or management roles, risk management graduates are often hired directly in risk advisory, governance, digital risk, audit advisory, and regulatory consulting roles.

A PGDRM programme focuses on building practical business and consulting skills that are increasingly in demand across industries.

Students typically develop skills in areas such as:

  • Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) frameworks used by global organisations
  • Financial risk analysis and decision-making in uncertain environments
  • Regulatory and compliance understanding across industries
  • Governance and internal control systems used by large corporations
  • Business problem-solving and case analysis
  • Technology and digital risk awareness
  • Strategic thinking and consulting frameworks

These skills are particularly valuable for careers in consulting, financial services, corporate risk functions, advisory firms, and regulatory environments.

Industry exposure depends largely on how a programme is structured.

Traditional MBA programmes often focus on theoretical frameworks across multiple business functions such as marketing, finance, operations, and strategy. While they provide broad knowledge, real industry interaction can vary across institutions.

GRMI’s PGRDRM programme is designed to emphasise practical exposure to real business challenges. The learning experience includes:

  • Case studies based on real corporate scenarios
  • Problem-solving sessions focused on business decisions
  • Leadership sessions with senior industry professionals
  • Exposure to consulting and risk frameworks used by global firms

This approach helps students understand how businesses actually operate and prepares them to step into professional roles with greater confidence.

GRMI’s 97% placement record reflects the percentage of students who have successfully secured professional roles after completing the PGDRM programme.

Graduates from the programme have joined leading consulting and advisory firms such as Deloitte, EY, KPMG, Grant Thornton, and more.
